木兰被外国朋友熟知主要是因为迪斯尼公司在1998年拍摄的动画片《Mulan》。动画片里的木兰有一头黑色的长发，个性活泼勇敢。她的爸爸妈妈一心想给她找一个好丈夫，可惜事情进行得不那么顺利。之后，北方匈奴入侵，木兰的父亲也在征兵的名单上。担心父亲身体不好，她决定女扮男装，替父亲上战场。在这个过程中，木兰遇到了很多困难，但是一直没有放弃，直到最后战争胜利。
动画片在原来故事的基础上增加了很多人物和细节，使它变得更好看。迪斯尼公司在《Mulan》大获成功之后，于2004年推出了《Mulan 2》，但是第二部的评价不如第一部那么好。2017年年底，迪斯尼公司宣布计划开拍真人电影《花木兰》。在中国家喻户晓、被称为“神仙姐姐”的演员刘亦菲将成为女主角。

Huā mùlán shì zhōngguó wénxué zuòpǐn zhōng de yīgè nǚ yīngxióng. Tā nǚ bàn nánzhuāng, tìdài fùqīn qù cóngjūn de gùshì zài mínjiān guǎng wèi liúchuán. Hěnduō yìshù zuòpǐn zhōng dōu yǒu tā de xíngxiàng. Zhōngxué kèběn lǐ de gǔshī “mùlán cí”, jiǎng de jiùshì tā de gùshì. Chúle gǔshī, bù shǎo diànshìjù hé diànyǐng lǐ yěyǒu tā de shēnyǐng.

English: Mulan
Hua Mulan is a heroine from Chinese literature. The story of her dressing up as a man and replacing her father to enlist in the army is widely known amongst the general population. Many works of art contain her image. The ancient poem in middle-school textbooks, ‘The Ballad of Mulan’ (Chinese: ‘木兰辞 – mùlán cí’) describes her story. In addition to this classical Chinese poem, there are many TV shows and movies that also contain her figure.
Mulan is very well known by foreign friends primarily because of Disney’s 1998 animation, ‘Mulan’. The Mulan (portrayed) in the animated film has long black-hair, and a lively and courageous character. Her mother and father wholeheartedly want to find her a good husband, but unfortunately things don’t progress very smoothly. Later, the Xiongnu (Huns) of Northern China invade, and Mulan’s father is on the list of conscriptions. Worried that her father is in poor health, she decides to disguise herself as a man, and take her father’s place on the battlefield. During this process, Mulan endures many hardships, but never gives up until finally the war is won.
The movie adds many characters and details to the foundation of the original story, making it more entertaining to watch. After Disney’s massive success in Mulan, in 2004 they released Mulan 2, although the reviews of the second installment were not as good as the first’s. At the end of 2017, Disney announced the plan to start filming a live action ‘Mulan’. Actress Liu Yifei, household name in China and nicknamed the “Celestial Elder Sister”, will become lead female protagonist.
