Giản thể:

English: What do Chinese people drink?
Chinese people like drinking beer and wine, but they were introduced from abroad. The Chinese have their own alcoholic drinks. For example, hwangjiu (yellow wine) and baijiu (white spirits). Hwangjiu has a long history. It is one of the oldest alcohols in the world, so people also call it, “old alcohol”. It also has the name ‘rice wine’ because hwangjiu is brewed with the base ingredient of rice. Hwangjiu wine can be yellow, red, or black. Its alcohol content is relatively small and it is very fragrant. People enjoy drinking it after it has been heated up. Hwangjiu is particularly nutritious and has come to be known as “liquid cake”. In Chinese kitchens, hwangjiu is an absolutely central complement. Each region has its own brand. Famous yellow wine brands include: Shaoxing, Jimo, Guyue Longshan, etc.
Baijiu, previously called Shaojiu (‘Tang Dynasty Wine’), is the most popular alcohol in China. Baijiu is a transparent drink and has the highest alcohol content, on average about 50%. As a result, baijiu is mainly drunk by older people. When Chinese people eat in restaurants, baijiu is the indispensable table alcohol drink. Baijiu is also a popular gift. China’s famous baiju brands are: Maotai, Wuliangye, Gujing Gong, Hongxing Erguotou, etc.
In China, the young are prohibited from drinking alcohol. Chinese women don’t often drink, especially not high alcohol content baijiu. Today, there are more and more bars in the cities, and beer and wine is getting more and more popular with people. However, relatively traditional Chinese people still prefer to drink their own alcohol.
